Wallace Collection Year 8 Gifted and Talented MFL and Art Trip

In December 30 Year 8 Spanish and Art students visited the Wallace Collection in Marylebone, a beautiful museum housing paintings, sculptures, furniture and armoury all owned by four generations of the Wallace family who bequeathed it to the nation in 1897.

Students had the opportunity to take part in an art workshop run by a professional artist and illustrator, who happened to be a native Spanish speaker and happy to answer our students’ questions in Spanish. They learned about the history of the museum and explored different parts of the building to get inspiration. They produced amazing drawings from different rooms in the house furnished with beautiful Rococo chairs, paintings and sculptures. Students shared their work and discussed what they thought of the beautiful surroundings.

After lunch we split into teams to compete in a Spanish Treasure hunt around the museum. There were three groups who had to find the answers to the clues written in Spanish, which were dotted all around the museum. There was fierce competition to be the fastest group and all students thoroughly enjoyed the day, practicing lots of Spanish and producing some excellent sketches.

Overall, it was a very successful trip and the students came back to school thoroughly inspired.

Our Visit to Physics in Action

Our school had the privilege of attending the Physics in Action event, and we’re still buzzing from the experience! This fantastic event brought together some of the brightest minds in physics, and we were thrilled to be a part of it.

The day was filled with five engaging sessions that not only complemented our KS5 curriculum but also showcased the latest research and real-world applications of physics. Our students were fascinated by the practical examples and case studies presented, which helped to bring the subject to life.

But what really stood out for us was the special session on exam success. Our students received invaluable tips and strategies from experienced professionals, which we’re confident will help them achieve their full potential in their upcoming exams.

Overall, our visit to Physics in Action was an enriching experience that left our students motivated and excited about the future of physics. We’re grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of this event and look forward to applying the knowledge and inspiration gained back in our own classrooms.

A Day of Politics and History: MSG Political Society’s Westminster Walking Tour

The Mulberry Stepney Green political society embarked on a fascinating walking tour of Westminster, joining forces with students from Mulberry School for Girls and Mulberry Shoreditch. The sun was shining as our students explored the historic streets and landmarks of the British capital, immersing themselves in the rich political heritage of the area.

One of the highlights of the day was the opportunity to witness the iconic Changing of the Queen’s Life Guards at Horse Guards Parade. The spectacle was a thrilling experience, with the precision and pomp of the ceremony leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.

This educational outing provided our students with a unique chance to engage with the political institutions and history that shape our country. As they walked through the streets of Westminster, they gained valuable insights into the inner workings of government and politics, deepening their understanding of the complex systems that govern our lives.

The walking tour was a resounding success, offering our students a memorable experience that will stay with them long after they leave school. By combining politics, history, and cultural enrichment, we are confident that this outing will inspire our students to become active and informed citizens, equipped to make a positive impact in their communities.

Mulberry History Society’s First Trip: Exploring HMS Belfast and the City

The Mulberry History Society embarked on its primary trip this week, taking to the Thames to explore the iconic HMS Belfast. This former Royal Navy warship, which served with distinction in World War II and the Korean War, offered a unique glimpse into life at sea during times of conflict.

As our students explored every corner of the ship, they gained a fascinating insight into what it would have been like to live, work, and fight aboard these vessels. From the cramped quarters to the bridge where crucial decisions were made, every aspect of life on board was laid bare, providing a captivating learning experience.

After exploring into the ship’s rich history, the group crossed Tower Bridge, taking in the breathtaking views of the City of London from one of the world’s most iconic landmarks. And what better way to refuel than with lunch opposite the majestic Tower of London? The proximity of modern-day London with its rich historical heritage was a perfect reflection of our society’s mission to inspire curiosity and appreciation for the past.

This trip marked an exciting milestone for the Mulberry History Society, and we look forward to many more adventures and discoveries in the future. By exploring our maritime heritage and the stories of those who have shaped our world, we aim to inspire our students to become curious, informed, and engaged global citizens.
